HOW TO: Build the Facebook Landing Page for Your Blog

A landing page, in internet terminology, is where you capture a customer’s information or entice them to take another action (such as purchase a product). On Facebook, the action that you want the user to take is to become a fan.Facebook previously had two places to become a fan but they have since reduced it to a single link at the top of a Page.

When a person lands on your page you want to answer the following questions:

  1. Who are you or what is your blog about?
  2. Why should the user be interested in you or your blog?
  3. What will they get out of becoming a fan of your page?
  4. Who’s in your blog community?

The main point is that new users will be attracted to your Page based on your ability to attract others. If you only have a few fans, your landing page becomes even more important.

Here’s how to create your Stunning and Awesome Static FBML landing page:

FBML stands for Facebook Markup Language, and it is the code used in Facebook applications to reference items on the social network, like user profiles, groups, feeds, and other data.

Step 1 : Go to the Static FBML application page on Facebook (make sure you’re logged in)

Step 2 : look for the ‘Add to my Page’ link under their logo (top right hand corner of the page) – click it!

Step 3: Once you’ve added the Static FBML app, click “Edit Page” below your blog’s profile image. This will bring up all your settings and apps. Look for the FBML app and click the “Application Settings” link.

FB02

Step 4: The app can function in two ways: As a set of boxes, or as one dedicated profile tab.  Now go ahead and make sure that the “Box” setting is removed, and the “Tab” setting is added.

Step 5: Once you’re in tab mode, go back to your settings and click the “Edit” link under the Static FBML app. This opens a standard text field where you can add your content.

FB04

“Box Title” will be the name of your tab, so you’ll want to change it to something appropriate, like “Welcome Page” “Win Free Themes,” or simply “Subscribe the Email Newsletter” depending on how you plan to use your Page.

In the main text field you can add standard HTML to the page as you would any website, including images, text, links, and other formatting. No need for HTML, BODY, or HEAD tags.

Step 6: If you want this new tab to be the “face” of your blog Fan Page, head back over to your page settings and edit your “Wall Settings.” There is an option for “Default Landing Tab for Everyone Else.” From that menu, select your new tab.
