12 New File Types supports Google Docs Viewer


With the introduction of 12 new file types, the Google Docs Viewer just got a whole lot more useful. Now, it will let you to view more than just PDFs, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint documents while launching from the Gmail application, Google Docs, or embedded in any website.

According to the official Google Docs Blog, dozen of new file types can be viewed in the Google Docs Viewer. This list includes two different kinds of Microsoft Excel files, and .PPTX file compatibility for PowerPoint 2007 and 2010. Check the complete list below:
Google Docs Viewer

  • Microsoft Excel (.XLS and .XLSX)
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 / 2010
  • Adobe Illustrator (.AI)
  • Adobe Photoshop (.PSD)
  • Autodesk AutoCad (.DXF)
  • Scalable Vector Graphics (.SVG)
  • PostScript (.EPS, .PS)
  • TrueType (.TTF)
  • XML Paper Specification (.XPS)
  • Apple Pages (.PAGES)

This adds welcome usability to Gmail and Google Docs. However you can’t create or edit documents in these formats using Google Docs. Do want to other file types  to be included in the Google Docs viewer?
