How To Browse Facebook More Safely By Enabling HTTPS

If you’ve ever done your shopping or banking online, you may have noticed a small “lock” icon appear in your address bar, or that the address bar has turned green. This indicates that your browser is using a secure connection (“HTTPS”) to communicate with the website and ensure that the information you send remains private.

What is HTTPS ?

HTTP stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol, so HTTPS stands for the same thing but with Secure on the end of it. HTTPS is a significantly more secure version of HTTP, which is the protocol you generally use to load up your webpages .  As Wikipedia will tell you, HTTPS is “a combination of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol with the SSL/TLS protocol to provide encrypted communication and secure identification of a network web server.

What does that actually mean when you’re browsing the web every day? It basically means you’re protecting your private information from people who want to steal it using readily availably tools

How to Enable Secure Facebook Browsing

Facebook currently uses HTTPS whenever your password is sent to us, but now it has expanded its usage in order to help keep your data even more secure.  Follow the below steps to enable secure Facebook browsing.

Step 1. Log into Facebook and go to Account in the top right-hand corner and select Account Settings.

Step 2.  Scroll down to “Account Security” and check both boxes for “Set up secure browsing (https) and login alerts”

Step 3:  Check the box under “Secure Browsing (https)” that says “Browse Facebook on a secure connection (https) whenever possible.

Step 4:  Click “Save.” button

Now onwards you will notice that whenever you browse Facebook, you will find this url “https://www.facebook.com” with a LOCK graphic denoting that you are now browsing on a secure encrypted protection.

You should consider enabling this option if you frequently use Facebook from public Internet access points found at coffee shops, airports, libraries or schools.

Ya this is a good start. I think you always have to be careful from a security stand point on all these social websites. They are huge targets for hackers and scammers.
