3 Reasons to Avoid Using a Mobile Broadband Dongle

How you connect to the internet will to a great extent impact the speed you get and your internet browsing experience, which is exactly why it is important that you spend a lot more time on the device you use to connect to the internet.

There are various forms of broadband internet service, and the mobile broadband internet is becoming quite popular lately. This is due to the fact that the mobile broadband network is becoming faster, more reliable and more stable.

If you are on the lookout for an internet connection service, using a mobile broadband dongle might be a smart idea. However, it is also important that you realize that using a mobile broadband dongle has its own downsides, and this article will be giving you some reasons why you might want to avoid using a broadband dongle.

1. It Is Not Flexible

The number one reason you might want to avoid using a mobile broadband dongle is that it is not flexible. By this I mean you are hardly in control. For example, if you decide to purchase your mobile broadband dongle through an ISP you will have to stick with the interface of that ISP for the long run. You can hardly use the same dongle with another dongle’s software, and I think that isn’t cool.

I think it will be better if you can customize your dongle as you see fit, but it isn’t feasible to do so with a mobile broadband dongle right now.

2. It is Speed Limited

Another disadvantage to using a mobile broadband dongle is that the speed you get is limited. For example, the two common forms of mobile broadband dongle available today offer speeds of around 3.6mbps and 7.2mbps respectively, and you can hardly get any dongle offering speeds outside of this bracket online. Personally, I think you should be able to get custom tailor modems and you should be able to get faster broadband dongles if your ISP provide faster internet speed, but you currently can’t do so with a broadband dongle.

3. It Might be ISP Locked

The final reason you might want to avoid using a mobile broadband dongle is that it might be ISP locked. Most ISPs lock their broadband dongles to their network only and if you buy it you won’t be able to use it with another network. If you know how to unlock a dongle you can easily get a workaround to this, but if not, you will have to deal with it alone.

If you decide to buy a dongle it is important to ask your ISP if it isn’t locked to their network.
