With millions of new blogs being created every day it is getting increasingly difficult to build a readership and stand out from the crowd. Everyone knows the old adage of ‘content is king’, but with so much content out there it’s no longer good enough to just produce great content, you need to promote it once you’ve created it.

Below are three simple ways to grow the readership of you blog and get people’s eyes on the fantastic content that you spend time and love creating:
Social Media
As so many blogs are created, so too are new Twitter accounts and Facebook pages to go with those blogs. These are fantastic outlets to promote your own content by interacting with other people in you niche and cross promoting each other’s material. The key to this is to not over promote your own material, a balance of 9 posts about other people to 1 of your own is usually a good balance.
To make this approach even more effective, it can be really useful to identify people at a similar level to you in your niche and formally partner with them in a deal to promote each other’s posts. By forming a group of 5 to 10 people on a similar level, you can get some fantastic exposure and grow as a group, piggybacking off each other’s success.

Search Engine Optimization
SEO is often seen as a dirty word, but there is plenty you can do to ensure you are maximising your blog’s reach in search engines without going to ‘the dark side’.
Do a little keyword research into phrases in your niche, create landing pages for all your major target phrases and optimise the key on page elements of your site (especially title tags!). The links will come if you create great content and promote it, but you’ll only be successful from search engines if you make sure your blog is well optimised in the first place.

Blog/Forum Commenting
Before you cry ‘foul’, I don’t mean spamming every blog you see with your name as ‘fashion blog’. Genuine blog comments on highly trafficked sites in your niche can bring in a lot of referring traffic and raise awareness of your blog if you do it right. This is a great way to bring in new readers who are reading similar material elsewhere and are almost certainly going to enjoy your posts.
Identifying great niche forums is also a fantastic way to bring in traffic. Before promoting yourself too much, follow the conversations taking place and then create content which answers the questions being asked. Then you can go into those conversations and tell people where they can find the answers – your blog! You only need to do this a few times to highlight your blog as a key resource in your niche and make it a place people will visit directly next time they have a question.
